Dizziness (pagkahilo) or Lightheadedness is a feeling of faintness or being close to passing out. It can occur alongside vertigo, which affects balance and makes a person feel as though they or their surroundings are spinning. Although lightheadedness and vertigo can feel similar, they have different causes.

Some of the common causes of lightheadedness are:

  • Hypertension
  • Dehydration
  • Sudden positional changes
  • Migraine
  • Ear Infection
  • Stress

Here are a few tips on how to prevent dizziness:

  • Drink lots of water
  • Eat your meals regularly
  • Getting up slowly after sitting or lying down
  • Eat a well balance diet
  • Limit salt intake
  • Get enough sleep

You may wish to see your doctor if you are experiencing persistent or recurring symptoms of dizziness or lightheadedness. You will be asked to describe your dizziness, whether it is lightheadedness or a sensation of motion and how long and how often this has occurred.
