Brain Herniation is actually a neurological condition wherein there is a significant increase in pressure which made the brain shift from it’s original position inside the skull. Signs and symptoms of brain herniation may include:

  • Dilated pupil
  • Severe Headache
  • Drowsiness
  • Seizures
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Cardiopulmonary arrest

The cause of brain herniation maybe secondary to the following: aneurysm, hemorrhage or bleeding in the brain, head injury, edema and brain tumor. Neurologist normally needs brain imaging using CT scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to identify displacement of brain tissue and the type of herniation. Patients are stabilised (airways & circulation). Brain herniation is life threatening; patient who suffers from brain herniation should immediately be brought to the nearest emergency care department of any medical institution.Brain
